Botanical Description

Leaves longer and wider than G. nivalis appearing to be revolute. Inner tepals with a small, variable green inverted V to U-shaped mark. Central Italy usually in sweet chestnut forest facing north. Offered by Barrs in 1875 as coming 'from somewhere in the Kingdom of Naples'. Described from Mons Virgineus to the east of Naples. In March 1988 plants in flower near there had silver or deep green leaves with a silver centre. See also under 'Ginns' Imperati'.
