Stems 4-10cm tall or more, usually puberulent. Basal leaves almost cylin drical, solitary, more or less prostrate and often curled. Stem leaves three to five, whorled, linear. Flowers two to five in umbellate clusters, green in bud, opening yellow, up to about 3cm in diameter, the tepals narrow and firm-textured. South-eastern Europe to Turkey, Caucasia, Iran, Turkestan, Syria and North Africa.
