Stems to 5cm tall, rarely to almost twice this. Basal leaves two, linear to filiform, often prostrate with coiled tips. Stem leaves two or three, shorter and broader. Flowers one to four, 2-3cm across, hairy, yellow, greenish in bud. Central and southern Europe, with one site in Wales. G.b. subsp gallica has velutinous stems and white pubescent leaves. G.b. subsp. nebrodensis has glabrous flowers.
