Douglas ex Griseb. (syn. Swertia albicaulis and S. californica). Woody based with one to several whitish, erect stems 30-45cm in height. Basal leaves 5-6cm long, spathulate to oblanceolate with a narrow white margin. Upper leaves smaller merging into leafy inflorescence bracts. Panicle narrow and interrupted up to 15cm long. Flowers about 2cm in diameter, greenish-white to bluish, the petals slender pointed and bearing a central fringed gland.
