Leaves marbled. Flowers large, pink, one to four per scape, the tepals with elongated median appendages. Anther filaments short, tapering from a very wide base to a narrow top, a feature shared only with E. oregonum. Anthers yellow. Style deeply three lobed the lobes thin and reflexed. Vancouver Island south to northern California in damp woods and stream sides. Selected forms include E.r. var. johnsonii (note spelling) from the California Coast Ranges with well coloured flowers and larger yellow throat markings. 'Pink Beauty', a variable but usually paler wild selection and 'Smithii', a bright pink form from Vancouver Island. 'White Beauty', is often attributed to this species but is now known to be a hybrid. So called var. bolanderi is E. californicum and var. watsonii is E. oregonum.
