perennial to 20cm in height, sometimes much more. Leaves rosetted at the base and scattered up the stems, lanceolate, entire or wavy-toothed, 3-7cm long. Flowers 1.5-2cm or more across, lemon-yellow, in dense racemes. Seed pods 3-5cm long. E.a. var. torulosum syn. E. torulosum is a short-lived perennial with orange-yellow flowers, few stems, and seed pods up to 12cm long. Washington State and Oregon, in screes and rock crevices, from foothills to alpine ridges.
