Botanical Description

Rather similar to the more familiar E. ovalifolium with oblanceolate leaves to 2cm or more, densely olive-green to silvery-white tomentose, on petioles about the same length. Flowering stems 5-15cm tall, slender, topped by a solitary head-like inflorescence. Flowers dense, yellow, usually a rich bright shade, late summer. California and Nevada, in loose, often volcanic sand at 1200-3000m. E.o. subsp. agnellum (Jeps.) S. Stokes is a dwarf version with 4-9mm long leaves and l-5cm long flowering stems. Alpine fell fields in granitic soils at 3000-3600m.
