Botanical Description

Loosely mound to mat-forming, spreading by slender rhizomes to 60cm or more in time. Stems very slender and wiry, branched to about 15cm in height. Leaves obovate to narrowly elliptic, 1-3.5cm long, the lower ones often three-lobed. Flowerheads about 2-5cm across, the rays white or pale lilac above, purple beneath, in loose leafy clusters over a long period. Mexico, in rocky habitats; widely naturalised in rocky places and on walls in southern and western Europe including the British Isles. Can be invasive both by rhizomes and seed. Not totally hardy in severe winters.
