Densely tufted from a woody taproot, up to 15cm in height. Leaves narrowly linear, grass-like, grey bristly. Flowerheads solitary, 1.3-2cm in diameter, the rays blue, pink or almost white. Northern California and Oregon, usually amongst volcanic rocks in plains and foothills.
