Tufted to colony-forming, with leafy stems 10-30cm or more in height. Leaves lanceolate to oblong, hairy, with or without teeth, the basal leaves up to 8cm long. Flowerheads solitary or in clusters, 2-3.5cm in diameter, the ray florets white. California, Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains, montane to subalpine on stream banks and meadows. A variable species, sometimes with slender rhizomes, or fairly densely tufted.
