Vahl ex Willd. (syn. E. nigrum var. rubrum). Much like E. nigrum but young stems white or grey felted and leaves rarely more than 5mm long. Flowers a little larger, yellow to orange or pinkish and reddish, late spring. Berries 4-7mm in diameter, red, occasionally black. Southern Argentina and Chile to Fuegia, Falkland Islands and Tristan da Cunha, in open heaths and bogs and in the less dense Nothofagus forests. Also introduced and naturalised in South Georgia.
