Botanical Description

Tufted to mat-forming. Leaves linear lanceolate to oblanceolate, 3-11mm long, at least the lower surface with branched hairs. Flowers yellow, 3-5cm wide in racemes 3-10cm in height. California to British Columbia (mountains) and Rocky Mountains, in open rocky places and fellfields; in California up to 4300m. D.o. subsp. subsessile is smaller with shorter petals.
