Botanical Description

to 20cm or more across. Leaves 8-10mm long, grey stellate-downy. Flowers bright yellow, up to 1cm across, in short dense racemes, on wiry scapes 5-8cm long, spring. Caucasus, on limestone cliffs. Probably needs an alpine house but worth trying outside in a dry wall or vertical crevice. Does well in tufa. A free-flowering and attractive species. Prone to attacks of downy mildew if kept in humid conditions.
