Botanical Description

Loosely tufted with slender, little-branched stems. Leaves narrowly lanceolate to linear, to 3mm wide. Flowering stems stiff and erect to 25cm high, bearing fragrant, rose-pink or white flowers with deeply fringed petals. From grassy or stony places mainly in the mountains. Southern and Central Europe. D.m. subsp. sternbergii is much smaller, rarely exceeding 20cm, leaves glaucous and flowers solitary. Eastern Alps.
