Botanical Description

Height 10-30cm. Tuberous-rooted. Basal leaves large, deeply lobed, almost fleshy. Flowers in loose racemes or ten or more, rich velvety-blue and hairy. North-western U.S.A. on talus slopes, alpine and subalpine ridges. This is one of the smaller tuberous-rooted North American species which have a short growing season and die down rapidly after flowering. They should then be kept almost dry until winter.
