Botanical Description

Erect but bushy habit, 40-60cm tall. Leaves deciduous, oblanceolate to obovate, l-4cm long, somewhat greyish-green. Flowers white, 8-10mm wide and long, silky pubescent in bud, in terminal clusters of five to ten, often but not invariably fragrant, late spring to early summer. Fruits small, pale orange to red. Southern and central Europe, from Yugoslavia to Spain, at subalpine levels in limestone rocks and screes at 300-1500m. [Pl.141]
