Rubus dalibarda). Mat-forming with creeping and rooting stems to 20cm or more in length. Leaves to 4cm across, rounded to heart-shaped, crenate, rich green, on longish slender stalks. Flowers of two kinds, with and without petals, the former have five white petals and open out flat 1-1.5cm across. They seldom set seed. The petalless blooms are much smaller and hidden beneath the leaves. They appear to be cleistogamous and set seed freely. Flowering from early to late summer. North-eastern North America from Canada south to North Carolina, in woods.
