Botanical Description

Corm tunic membranous with parallel fibres. Leaves two to four, 1.5-3mm wide, glossy deep green, with the flowers. Flowers 8-9cm tall orange-yellow sometimes with brown markings externally and fragrant, the orange or vermilion style much divided, winter. Turkey, Syria and Lebanon, in rocky places or light scrub up to 1400m. Some forms are susceptible to frost damage and bulb frame or alpine house cultivation is advisable.
