Botanical Description

Corm stoloniferous with parallel fibre tunic. Leaves three to four, 3-4mm wide, produced long after the flowers have finished. Flowers 20-27cm tall, deep purple on long perianth tubes, the orange styles multiple-branched, autumn. Southwestern France, Spain, in moist meadows up to 2000m. The species is easily established in moist situations where it will spread by means of stolons. It is naturalised in several locations in Britain.
