Corm tunic parallel fibre. Leaves three to five dark green, up to 1mm wide. Flowers 8-10cm tall, lilac or purple with a buff exterior striped purple, the stripes merging to a blotch in some forms, the three-branched style yellow or orange, spring. Corsica, Sardinia, in rocky or sandy places up to 1500m. Easily cultivated and useful for its late flowering. Smaller than C. corsicus which it somewhat resembles though the latter has a deepercoloured style and a reticulate tunic.
