Corm tunic markedly reticulate. Leaves two to three, deep green, up to 4mm wide with a marked white stripe, appearing long after flowering time. Flowers 12-13cm tall, lilac or purple with basal purple stripes internally, sometimes merging to a purple blotch, the style much divided and scarlet, autumn. North-western Italy, and adjacent to France, meadows up to 1400m. A fine species easily maintained in the open garden.
