Regel ex Maw. Corm tunic parallel fibre membrane. Leaves up to twenty, 1-2.5mm wide. Flowers about 8cm high, shiny yellow with varying amounts of purple or brown flecking on the outside, late winter to spring. Afghanistan, Pakistan, U.S.S.R., in rocky places at 1200-3000m. A hardy species but needs a summer baking. Grows well in many gardens and thrives in a bulb frame.
