Botanical Description

Corm tunic finely reticulate. Leaves up to five appearing with the flowers. Flowers 5-9cm high pale or deep lilac to purple usually with a silvery or buff exterior and varying amounts of purple lines, spring. Yugoslavia, Albania, in rocky grassland or scrub up to 2000m. Easily grown in the rock garden or raised beds. The usual commercial clone is undistinguished but wild forms vary considerably, some having handsome pinkish-lilac flowers.
