Botanical Description

Corm tunic finely reticulate. Leaves two to four appearing with the flowers. Flowers 5-8cm tall, deep golden or pale yellow, creamy white sometimes with a purple tube, late spring. Variable in shape from long and slender to globular. Yugoslavia, Albania and northern Greece, meadows up to 2500m. Because of its rarity has been largely grown under glass but seems amenable to cultivation in rock garden or raised bed and does not need a summer baking.
