Botanical Description

Rosettes forming tufts, the basal leaves purplish, obovate-spathulate to elliptic 2-5cm long on stalks almost as long, entire or few-lobed. Flowering stems branched, to 10cm in height. Flowerheads yellow, tinged purple in bud, 1.5cm or more across. C.n. subsp. ramosa is more slender and up to 20cm tall. California to Alaska and Labrador on stony slopes and screes up to 4000m.
