Rootstock formed of long thick tubers. Stems variable but up to 15cm in length. Leaves finely dissected and ferny, silvery glaucous. Flowers yellow or bronze in dense racemes. Himalaya, in damp rocky habitats and stream banks. Group 2, needs a large deep pot, difficult.
C.m. var. sikkimensis has smaller yellow, brown tipped flowers and grows in higher damp screes.
