Herbaceous perennial with fibrous roots. Leaves rosetted and tufted, bipinnate, finely and elegantly dissected, sometimes taking on pink and bronze hues in autumn, very fern-like. Flowers in dense racemes to 15cm or more in length, yellow, with down-pointing spurs. China, in rocky, often shady places. Group 1 in well drained humus rich soil and partial shade, but very tolerant of soil and situation.
