Vigorous perennial with ascending to more or less prostrate stems, forming tangled mats to 45cm in height by 1.2m spread. Leaves composed of fifteen to twenty-five oblong to elliptical leaflets 6-20mm long. Flowers 1-1.5cm long, lilac-pink to purple or white in umbels of ten to twenty, late spring and summer. Central and southern Europe, often cultivated for fodder and as ground cover and naturalised elsewhere. Much too large and rampant for the rock garden.
