perennial to 60cm or more. Leaves ovate to rounded, sometimes with small basal lobes. Flowerheads to 5cm wide, yellow, maroon at the base, summer. South-eastern U.S.A. in open woodland on alkaline soils. C.a. 'Superba' is rarely above 40cm in height wit h somewhat larger flowerheads.
