Densely cushion-forming from a woody rootstock, up to 8cm high by 20-40cm across. Leaves linear-spathulate to narrowly linear, 5-10mm long, plicate and silky adpressed-hairy. Flowers usually solitary, sometimes in small dense cymes, white, rarely yellow or rose, 1.5-1.8mm wide, early to mid-summer. Turkey and Iran to the Balkans, in chalk and serpentine slopes, screes, open pine woods and Quercus coccifera macchie, at 200-2135m. [Pl.118]
