Orchis comperiana). Up to 60cm tall in bloom, often less. Leaves three to four, ovate-oblong to lanceolate, to 15cm long, unspotted. Flower spikes broadly cylindrical and rather loose. Flowers purple-brown to olive-green, the tepals forming a hood to 2cm long. Lip whitish or pink-tinted or mottled, three-lobed, each lobe elongated into a hanging filament up to 8cm or more long, early to mid-summer. Turkey, Iraq, Crimea, Lesbos and Rhodes, in pine forest and scrub from near sea level to 1750m.
