About 15 species of annuals and perennials from western North America and Bolivia to southern Chile and Argentina. They may be erect or spreading, with entire or deeply lobed narrow leaves and bear terminal clusters of slender tubular flowers which have five spreading petal lobes.
Some of the smaller annuals and perennials are worth trying on the rock garden, with C. debilis being the most desirable. In general they grow easily in ordinary well drained soil in a sunny site. Propagation by seed in spring; germinates after a year.
