Botanical Description

with leafy stems to 15cm tall. Leaves stalked, lanceolate to ovate or narrowly elliptic, 3-8cm long, those on the stems smaller and sessile. Flowers up to fifteen, each 2cm or more across, pink or white veined pink, spring. Western Canada to New Mexico, on alpine slopes, stream banks and in open woods where the ground is moist durin g the growing season followed by a long dry summer. [Pl.112]
