Botanical Description

Gaultheria hispidula). Prostrate and mat-forming with bristly stems. Leaves alternate, broadly oval, 8mm long, becoming smaller toward the tips, bristly hairy beneath. Flowers bell-shaped, greenish-white, four-lobed, no more than 3mm long. Berries 8mm long, pure white. Labrador to British Columbia as far south as North Carolina and north-eastern Washington State in the margins of marshes and bogs, often in forested areas.
