Botanical Description

Tufted to small clump-forming, from a thick, tuber-like rhizome, up to 60cm in height, sometimes more. Leaves lanceolate to narrowly spathulate, 7-15cm long, deep lustrous green. Flowers white, starry, with six narrow tepals, about 6mm in diameter, many in long, slender, wand-like racemes, summer. Ontario and Michigan to Florida, Arkansas and Mississippi, in woods, scrub, meadows and bogs.
