Botanical Description

Cabrera ex Perez Moreau. Tufted and shortly branched, 1.5-4cm tall with basal rosettes. Leaves spathulate, 4-7mm long, stem-clasping at their base and recurving above, the free part shortly pubescent, the basal half woolly with long, crisped hairs. Flowerheads sessile, nestling amongst the upper foliage, their involucres 6-8mm in diameter, 8-12mm deep, the inner bracts bearing a small, dark, diamond-shaped appendage. Spreading ray-florets 4-5mm long, white with green backs, spreading. Chile and Argentina in dry torrent beds, screes and dwarf stony steppes in the central cordilleras at 2500-3500m.
