Botanical Description

Tufted perennial up to 30cm or more tall. Leaves linear to narrowly lanceolate, usually entire. Floral bracts oblong to obovate, green or tipped yellow, purple or red. Flowers 1.5-2.5cm long, mid to late summer. North-eastern North America westwards to South Dakota and Utah, in rocky or gravelly, often peaty soils in the mountains to subalpine levels.
