Often densely tufted glandular pubescent perennial, 10-25cm in height. Leaves lanceolate to narrowly so, sometimes with one pair of lobes. Floral bracts three-lobed and red-tipped. Flowers 1.6-2.2cm long, with a red-tipped calyx and red-edged yellowish corolla, summer. (C.b. var. pallida has bracts and calyces yellow-tipped). California, above 2000m, in Abies magnifica forest and alpine fellfields.
