Botanical Description

(Harrimanella stelleriana). Low mat-forming with wiry stems bearing bright green, bronze-tinged, somewhat spreading leaves 3-5mm long by 2mm wide, linear-lanceolate and flat. Flowers solitary, almost sessile, mainly at or towards the tips of stems with red 2mm long calyx lobes and bell-shaped cream/white corollas with pink-tinged lobes. Five petals, split down to point of the five sepals.

Central Japan northwards to Alaska and northwestern North America on mountain summits. Grows in association with other dwarf Ericaceae, dwarf willows etc., in exposed position in well drained alpine fellfield at the highest altitudes.
