Botanical Description

with erect flowering stems 40-70cm tall. Basal leaves in loose rosettes, oblonglanceolate to narrowly so, the upper ones linear, somewhat hispid. Flowers funnel-shaped, up to 2cm long, lilac or purple, in stiff, open spikes. European Alps to central Italian mountains. Not very choice and too tall for the rock garden, but if the flowering stems are cut back when 30cm high they branch and produce a more satisfying doral display.
