Botanical Description

Height 15-30cm Stem erect, branching with two flowers. Flowers small, 1.5-2.5cm wide, erect, opening flat, yellow to orange, tipped with brown. The narrow sepals are reflexed and much longer than the petals which are conspicuously bearded with long, brownish hairs. The glands are circular, slightly depressed, with a ring of hairs surrounding them. South California on dry hillsides. This is a curiosity with its very reduced, hairy petals, but it is not difficult to grow in the alpine house.
