Height 5-15cm. Basal leaf 10-20cm long, 5-15mm wide. Stem erect, flowers one to three, white to pale lavender, widely campanulate, petals unfringed and naked, glands transverse, naked, not depressed, with a fringed membrane beneath. Fruit erect. Mount Shasta area in woodland. Further south to Yosemite a smaller race occurs with nodding seed capsules which has been named C. minimus, but a full range of intermediates occurs. C. nudus is one of the least spectacular species but is easily grown.
