Botanical Description

There is some doubt regarding the synonymity of C. erycarpus and C. nitidus, and the latter is still sometimes offered in seed lists. Height 20-30cm. Basal leaf 10cm long, withering by flowering time as in the section Mariposae. Stem unbranched with few (if any) stem leaves. Flowers one to five, erect, creamy-white, with a large reddish-purple blotch in the middle of each petal and a few hairs below it. Glands slightly depressed, triangular with dense yellow hairs and a fringed membrane below. Southeastern Washington, Montana and Oregon.
