Botanical Description

Height 10-30cm Basal leaf 15-40cm long by 5-40mm wide, stem leaves two to four, narrow. Stem usually branched, each branch with two bracts subtending two flowers. Flowers globose, nodding, deep yellow, often tinged brown, the petals fringed with hairs, otherwise naked, the glands deeply depressed with a single transverse band of hairs. C. amabilis differs from C. pulchellus in having smaller, deeper yellow flowers and less hairy petals. California in the north coast ranges in scrub and light woodland. [Pl.76]
