Botanical Description

Leaves grassy, linear, silvery, silky, l-2cm by l-2mm from a very thick taproot, shortly branched at the crown. Flowering stems prostrate to ascending-spreading, 7- 12cm long with some reduced alternate leaves. Flowers in dense, sessile (or almost so) terminal clusters of white or pink flowers which occur as mixed populations. Each bloom 8-15mm across with five to eighteen stamens. Argentina and Chile, in central to northern Andes, in high exposed gravelly barrens at 2000-4000m. Flowering November to May in the wild.
