Botanical Description

Leaves up to 30cm long when mature. Flower stems erect, 40-60cm tall, orange-yellow, each tepal with a central dark line, 2-3cm in diameter, on long pedicels forming a rounded umbel 10-15cm wide, early summer. B.c. var. aurea has yellow flowers, and is considered by some botanists to be within the variability of B. crocea itself. Found in a wide variety of habitats, from dry flats and hillsides to chaparral and sagebrush scrub from sea level to 1600m.
