Similar to B. rubra, but only 20-40cm tall and usually villose throughout. Leaves ovate, 3-5cm long, rounded or subcordate at the base. Flowers of conspicuous red stamens and styles only, summer. Alberta to Colorado east to South Dakota and Nebraska, mainly in the montane zone.
