Botanical Description

More or less clump-forming, 30-60cm high. Leaves ovate-cordate to almost triangular, 15-30cm wide, broadly wavy, entire, silvery velvety especially beneath. Flowerheads solitary, yellow, 6-10cm in diameter. California north to the cascade mountains and the Canadian border, also east to South Dakota and Colorado in the deep sandy soils of plains and forests at 1400-2800m. [Pl.60]
