Botanical Description

Laretia compacta). Bright green, tough woody mats or cushions as much as 2-3m across with a foetid odour. Leaves glabrous, sessile, oblong-ovate, leathery, 2-8mm long sometimes edged with ten or more shallow crenations, in tight rosettes. Flowers yellow in umbels of five with a short involucre of five to eight bracts. Andes of southern Peru, Bolivia, northern Chile and Argentina on gravel, ash and boulder slopes at 2700-5200m.
