Botanical Description

Similar to A. newberryi, but more felted and with seven to fifteen leadets. Flowers scarlet with a reddish calyx tube up to 1.6cm long and petals 3.5-4cm long. California to Arizona and Baja California, on gravelly ridges and in canyons up to 2100m. Best in the alpine house. [Pl.54]
